Sky Boat

Sometimes I build a sculpture multiple times to figure out spacial relationships. That was the case with Sky Boat, where I built this blue 2x4 structure three times to figure out what angle to place the poles, what shape to build the metal gunwale and where to weld the fittings for the wood poles to attach.
At thirty-two feet long and twenty feet tall, this is my largest sculpture so far, and my most insubstantial, like a sketch in the sky.

Sky Boat is located in the sculpture garden of the Robert Lowery Gallery, in Danielsville, Georgia.
